Abel Shibu Simon

Abel Shibu Simon is an Assistant Professor at the School of Law, UPES, specializing in Environmental Law. His expertise spans international, Indian, and comparative environmental laws, with a particular focus on climate change, its intersection with the law of the sea, and the human rights dimensions of environmental concerns.

More recently, his research has expanded into disaster governance and the role of the state in preventing and responding to climate-induced disasters. He is committed to advancing legal scholarship in sustainability, climate justice, and governance frameworks that address pressing environmental challenges.

Abel has collaborated with the Climate Change Legal Initiative on multiple projects related to climate law. Among his key contributions is work on a report published by International IDEA, examining climate litigation from a democracy perspective.

His academic and research engagements reflect a strong commitment to policy-oriented legal research and practical environmental governance issues.
