Profile Summary
Ms. Kuhu Maithil is a research-driven legal academic specialising in criminal law, criminology, and family law. Her academic journey began with a strong research foundation during her BBA LL.B. (Hons.) at Karnavati University, where she developed an early interest in criminal law and socio-legal inquiry through intensive coursework, mooting, and academic writing. Building on this foundation, she deepened her research engagement during her LL.M. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Queen's University Belfast (UK), graduating with commendation.
During her master's programme, she actively engaged in faculty-led research activities, contributing to academic discussions and collaborative exploration of contemporary criminal justice issues. This exposure allowed her to refine research questions, interpret academic literature, and understand empirical methodologies, significantly enhancing her analytical and research capabilities.
Beyond academics, Ms. Kuhu actively contributed to student-support initiatives at Queen's University Belfast, particularly for Indian students transitioning to the UK. UPES is her first academic appointment, where she brings an international academic perspective and a student-centric approach to teaching Family Law and related legal subjects.
Work Experience
Before joining UPES, Ms. Kuhu gained valuable academic exposure during her LL.M. at Queen's University Belfast, where she closely engaged with faculty-led research discussions and academic activities in criminology and criminal justice. She also contributed to student-engagement and mentoring initiatives, supporting international students, particularly those arriving from India, in understanding academic expectations and adapting to UK student life.
Her experiences in the UK strengthened her communication, leadership, and cross-cultural awareness, all of which now enrich her teaching practice.

Scholarly Activities
Ms. Kuhu's scholarly work reflects a deep commitment to issues at the intersection of gender justice, criminal law, and contemporary socio-legal challenges. Her master's dissertation titled Restorative Justice and Sexual Violence: Healing through Victim and Offender Accountability explored the scope of restorative practices in sensitive offences and examined survivor-centric models of justice.
Her academic writing includes chapters exploring sexual violence through victim narratives, custodial practices affecting children and their rights, and the legal challenges posed by deepfake technology as an emerging cybercrime in India. Her earlier publication, Analytical Study on Male and Female Rape Legislations in India, demonstrates her ongoing engagement with gender-responsive legal reform.
Her research ethos is grounded in critical analysis, socio-legal sensitivity, and a commitment to producing scholarship that contributes to the evolving discourse on justice and rights.
