Profile Summary
Dr. Kusum Pal is an accomplished legal academician and currently serves as Assistant Professor - Selection Grade at the School of Law, UPES. She holds a Ph.D. in Law from Panjab University and earned her LL.M. and LL.B. from Himachal Pradesh University, where she received a Gold Medal and the Radha Krishan Punshir Memorial Award for excellence in Law.
Her academic career is marked by teaching diverse subjects and an unwavering commitment to scholarly research. She has built a distinguished profile through academic leadership, legal scholarship, and contributions to policy and legal education.
Work Experience
With over 15 years of teaching and research experience, Dr. Pal has held various prominent positions including Head of the Department and Associate Professor at Amity University Punjab, Associate Professor at Chandigarh University, Research Officer at Chandigarh Judicial Academy (Punjab and Haryana High Court), and Assistant Professor at the Department of Laws and University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
She has taught an extensive range of law subjects at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.

Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Pal believes in cultivating critical thinking in addition to understanding the fundamentals of law. Her teaching philosophy aims at developing analytical ability, ethical awareness, and the capacity to apply legal reasoning to real-world social problems.
She strives to create a respectful and inclusive classroom where students feel empowered to question assumptions, engage in debate, and connect legal doctrine to lived experience.

Awards and Achievements
Recipient of the Empowering Women's Award (2024) by the Lions Club, Chandigarh. Awarded a Gold Medal for LL.B. performance and the prestigious Radha Krishan Punshir Memorial Gold Medal for overall excellence in Law from Himachal Pradesh University. Recipient of a Research Fellowship from Panjab University.
Regularly invited as a resource person and judge at national and international moot court competitions, conferences, and academic workshops. Invited by ELSA United Kingdom to judge international moots and delivered sessions with the Central Detective Training Institute under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, for training law enforcement officers on the new criminal law framework.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Pal's research expertise spans multiple areas of contemporary legal significance, including gender justice, child rights, digital privacy, environmental jurisprudence, and technology law. She has authored and edited several scholarly works, including five books and more than twelve Scopus-indexed publications, in addition to various peer-reviewed journal articles.
She has also edited legal periodicals such as The Law and the Chandigarh Judicial Academy Newsletter, which catered to judges and legal professionals across Punjab and Haryana. Dr. Pal was associated as a researcher with the national committee constituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to examine the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction Bill, 2016, under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal, reflecting her engagement with policy-level legal reform.
