Dr. Abhay Kanwar

Dr. Abhay Kanwar is an accomplished academic and researcher with a Ph.D. in Development Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He previously served as a faculty member at National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur and brings a multidisciplinary background spanning sociology, public policy, environmental governance, and climate change studies. He completed his M.Phil. in Planning and Development from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University. His academic work reflects a deep commitment to social justice, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development through research, teaching, and public engagement.

Dr. Kanwar served as Faculty Member in the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management at National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur from January 2016 to September 2017. He also worked as a Trainer with Youth4Jobs in 2018, contributing to skill development and capacity building for socioeconomically vulnerable differently abled youth.

His teaching seeks to inspire socially aware, analytically rigorous, and ethically grounded learners.

• Dr. Kanwar received the Himalayan Climate Data Field Lab Travel Grant from ICIMOD worth USD 1,200 in 2024. 
• He won First Prize in the Case Study Competition at the World Bank Group Youth Summit in 2022. He was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship by the University Grants Commission from 2018 to 2023. 
• He also received a travel grant from Indian Institute of Technology.
• Bombay to present his paper at University of Oxford in 2014, along with the Mukhya Mantri Protsahan Yojana grant of ₹75,000 from the Government of Himachal Pradesh in 2013.

Dr. Kanwar has authored and co-authored publications in reputed international journals, including the University of Pennsylvania Asian Law Review, Journal of Law & Medicine, and International Journal of Green Economics. He has presented research papers at prestigious academic platforms including University of Oxford, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Le Havre, and Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has also participated in faculty development programs and workshops on climate change, feminist research methodologies, and corporate governance, while remaining actively engaged in socio-political writing, literature review, and community service initiatives.
