Profile Summary

Dr. Muskan Dhandhi completed her Ph.D. from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. She earned her undergraduate degree from Lakshmibai College, University of Delhi and postgraduate degree from Ambedkar University Delhi. Her doctoral thesis examined the intersection of translation, ethnography, and folklore through women-centric rituals and material culture of Haryana. 

During her Ph.D., she received the Charles Wallace India Trust Research Grant for conducting part of her research at British museums and institutions including King's College London, University of Edinburgh, and Queen's University Belfast. She was also awarded the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute MITACS Globalink Research Award for a semester at Concordia University. 

She has published book chapters with Bloomsbury, Routledge, Peter Lang, and University of Liverpool Press, with forthcoming papers in reputed international journals.

Work Experience

Prior to joining UPES, Dr. Dhandhi taught at National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand for one academic year. She also worked as a Research Associate for an IMPRESS ICSSR research project. During her doctoral studies, she served as a Teaching Assistant at Indian Institute of Technology Mandi from 2020 to 2024.

Literature and Ethnography; Translation Studies; Folklore; Cultural Studies; Material and Visual Culture; Women’s Folklore; Ecology and Environmental Translation; Oral Narratives.

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Dhandhi believes in introducing students to newer forms of media within the teaching-learning process to help them understand their socio-cultural positioning and connect with ground realities. She encourages humane values and fosters an interactive classroom environment where teachers and students learn collaboratively.

Courses Taught

At National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand, she taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Interpreting Literature, Theatre and Cinema; Research Methodology; Dynamics of Research Writing; Studies in Contemporary Indian English Literature; Technical Communication; and Communication Skills.

Awards and Grants

Dr. Dhandhi is the recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Research Grant (2023) and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute MITACS Globalink Research Award (2023). She also received the Ambedkar University Student Travel Grant (2017) to present at the American Folklore Society Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, USA. During graduation, she was awarded Best Student of the Year (2016). Her ethnographic research on Haryanvi Sanjhi was exhibited at Ca' Foscari University of Venice in April 2025.

Scholarly Activities

Dr. Dhandhi has published several scholarly book chapters with leading international publishers including Bloomsbury, Routledge, Peter Lang, and University of Liverpool Press. Her forthcoming journal papers appear in Scopus Q1-indexed journals such as Text Matters, South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies, and Feminist Translation Studies. 

She has presented research at prestigious academic platforms including Indiana University Bloomington, Ohio State University, Folklore Society, Royal Anthropological Institute, American Folklore Society, and the FUSP Nida Centre for Advanced Research on Translation.
