Profile Summary

Professor Kaynat Qazi is a member of the School of Liberal Studies' founding faculty. She is a well-known expert in the field of cultural studies study. She has been instrumental in laying a firm basis for the Cultural and Arts Centre, UPES. She is currently working on the most prestigious cultural mapping mission of the Government of India's Ministry of Culture. Simultaneously, she has done research projects on the archaeological heritage site – Bateshwar group of temples of 6th sanctuary AD, in central India.

Work Experience

Prof. Qazi formerly worked at Shiv Nadar University in Greater Noida before joining UPES. She brings with her a wealth of experience spanning more than a decade. In a span of just four years, she had covered 2.5 million kilometres for field research. She has completed a project called Parantapasvini: The Tale of the 12 Most Inspirational Women of India for the IGNCA, a division of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India.

Within the area of Liberal Studies, Professor Kaynat Qazi has maintained a broader study domain. She has seven published books. There are four more in the pipeline. Her research focuses on the country's tangible and intangible legacy. She is an experienced field researcher. She is a documentary filmmaker and professional photographer. She is an experienced journalist. Her articles are frequently published in the national media.

Teaching Philosophy

Prof. Kaynat Qazi's teaching philosophy is centered on teaching outside of the classroom. She believes that teaching and learning experiences that take place outside of the classroom have several advantages for both students and teachers. When students are asked to put what they have learned "in the real world" into practice, the result is a student-centered learning experience that increases learning and supports personal and social growth. Her teaching style is highly engaging and focused on the students. She believes that today's generation is highly intelligent. What they require is guidance, not dull lectures.

Prof. Qazi received Grant for the collaborative research of cultural mapping of Uttarakhand from IGNCA under the national mission of cultural mapping, ministry of culture.

Scholarly Activities

Prof. Qazi has made important intellectual contributions to cultural studies. She is an expert in historical documentation and has created two coffee table books for the Morena District Archeology, Tourism, and Culture Council in Madhya Pradesh. She has worked for the Gond people in central India. She wrote a detailed research book and a coffee-table book about the Devgarh Gond tribe, which was funded by the Chindwara District Archeology, Tourism, and Culture Council. She has created an audiovisual chronicle of the Lord Bhadraj Fair in Uttarakhand’s heritage.
