Program Details
The B.Tech. Biotechnology program at UPES School of Health Sciences and Technology is a four-year program of 165 credits, combining theory, laboratory practicals, projects and industrial trainings. Students study core biotechnology areas including biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology and genetics, genetic engineering, bioprocess engineering and downstream processing, immunology and immuno-techniques, environmental biotechnology, enzyme technology, and animal and plant biotechnology. The program also includes vocational courses in bioanalytical techniques, nanobiotechnology, data analysis and simulations, regenerative medicine and artificial organs, tissue engineering, AI/ML in health care, systems biology, genome editing, and computational biology and bioinformatics, alongside two specialisation tracks aligned with emerging domains.
The Genome Engineering and Precision Therapeutics specialisation builds advanced capability in genome editing, systems biology, regenerative medicine and artificial organs, and molecular and nanodiagnostics, supporting personalised medicine and advanced healthcare technologies. Practical training, industrial/institutional visits and internships strengthen real-world exposure.
Program Highlights
Students learn in state-of-the-art labs for molecular biology and genetic engineering with hands-on experimentation.
Training includes modern tools such as PCR, real-time PCR, fermenters, spectrophotometers and gel documentation analysis.
Facilities support protein analysis, bioinformatics, cellular imaging, animal models including C. elegans, D. melanogaster and Zebra fish, cell culture and a dedicated animal house.
Biosafety protocols and regulatory guidelines are embedded, supported by advanced lab safety features.
Workshops, seminars, project-based learning and mentorship from faculty, staff and industry professionals build confidence in experimental design and data analysis.
Industry Trends & Career Opportunities
Biotechnology is expanding across tissue engineering, personalised and regenerative medicine, targeted therapies, vaccines, molecular and nanodiagnostics, biosimilars, microbiome therapeutics, and AI and data analytics, alongside interdisciplinary drug-development collaborations and necessary ethical and regulatory considerations.
Graduates can pursue opportunities across bioprocess engineering, pharmaceutical and biologics manufacturing, diagnostics and molecular testing labs, drug discovery and development, computational biology and bioinformatics, AI/ML-enabled healthcare analytics, clinical research, regulatory affairs, nanobiotechnology diagnostics/therapeutics, quality control and assurance, industrial/environmental/agricultural biotechnology, biotech startups, and roles in government and research institutions.
The program also supports progression to higher education, research careers and entrepreneurship.
Placements
The program emphasises practical training and industry exposure to prepare graduates for roles in research, development and production of pharmaceutical products. Graduates are positioned for opportunities with leading biotechnology companies, supported by the university’s placement initiatives and industry engagement.
