MA Mass Communication - Film Studies and TV Production

Program Details

The MA Mass Communication at UPES is a two-year postgraduate program built for the digital-first media and content economy. Students begin with a shared foundation in Semester 1 covering communication ecosystems, audio-visual production, advertising and public relations, media ethics, digital journalism and AI tools for multimedia—creating a strong base before moving into specialisation-led, practice-oriented learning. Professional studios, a PCR (Production Control Room) and advanced labs support hands-on training through newsroom simulations, documentary and short-film projects, podcasting, multicam TV production, OTT-focused storytelling and data-led content work. Mandatory internships and industry assignments ensure real-world exposure, while Semester 4 is a flexible, project-based research semester (dissertation/capstone/paid internship/production research/fellowship) to help students graduate with a portfolio and research capability.

The Film Studies & TV Production specialisation blends film theory and cultural studies with rigorous production training, building strong visual storytelling skills for cinema, television and digital platforms. Students engage with film aesthetics, Cinemas of India, genre and fandom studies, adaptation studies and media industries, alongside practical work in cinematography, video editing, VFX, animation culture, documentary and short-film production, multicam TV workflows, web-series creation and OTT storytelling formats—supporting both creative entrepreneurship and research-led pathways in film and media studies.
