Profile Summary
Avneet Batra recently completed her Ph.D. from West Virginia University, USA. Her research interests primarily focus on understanding parent–adolescent relationships and their impact on adolescent adjustment outcomes. Prior to moving to the United States, she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology from the University of Delhi. She also holds a Diploma in Guidance and Counselling from NCERT, New Delhi.
She recently published a research article in the Journal of Child and Family Studies focusing on helicopter parenting and adolescent anxiety and depression. She has presented her work at various national and international conferences. In addition, she has experience working and interning across diverse settings, including schools and hospitals, which has strengthened her ability to work within interdisciplinary teams. She aims to continue expanding her research interests and contributing meaningfully to the field of developmental and cross-cultural psychology.
Work Experience
Before joining UPES as an Assistant Professor, Avneet worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) at West Virginia University, USA. In this role, she taught a variety of undergraduate courses and handled multiple teaching responsibilities. She also has experience working with children with autism, where she applied Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy techniques in educational and developmental settings.

Teaching Philosophy
Avneet believes in fostering critical thinking and lifelong learning among students. She strongly believes students learn best when classroom concepts are connected to real-world contexts. Her teaching methods encourage students to consider diverse viewpoints, relate theoretical ideas to practical problems, and participate in open discussions that respect varied perspectives.
She actively incorporates “active learning” methodologies into her classroom through student feedback, real-world examples, and engaging communication techniques. Her teaching approach also emphasizes approachability, inclusivity, and sensitivity towards students’ individual learning needs.
Courses Taught
Avneet has taught several undergraduate courses as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the United States, including Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Social Psychology, Introduction to Human Development, Adolescent Development, and Child Development. At UPES, she currently teaches Lifespan Development and Experimental Psychology.

Scholarly Activities
Avneet has taught a variety of undergraduate courses in both in-person and online formats. She has also completed a 15-credit certificate in university teaching, which significantly strengthened her pedagogical and instructional skills.
She has actively contributed to research projects in developmental and cross-cultural psychology. Her master’s thesis examined the relationship between helicopter parenting and adolescent psychopathology, while her doctoral dissertation explores domain-specific parental behavioural control and its association with youth internalizing and externalizing symptoms among Indians and Indian Americans.
Her research experience spans both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. She also serves as an active member of the International Committee for the Society for Research on Adolescence (USA), contributing to international academic engagement and collaboration in adolescent development research.
