The B. Tech. Applied Petroleum Engineering with specialization in intelligent drilling and production systems aims to train skilled individuals to fulfil the intricacies of modern-day industries. Performance of maintenance and modification activities is of key importance for ensuring optimum production from a subsurface reservoir. The recent introduction of Collaborative work environments (CWEs) in major oil companies, requires individuals with knowledge of implementation of computational mathematics, artificial intelligence, and optimization techniques in order to remotely operate the surface production facilities and deep-sea platforms.    

In the upstream oil and gas industry, the implementation of artificial intelligence in the drilling industry provides a significant potential for harvesting additional value for the global intelligent energy (IE) plan. The transformation of the drilling industry is providing remote access to real-time rig data, drilling statistics, and wireline data with static file management. This modern development led to the introduction of onshore advisory centre operation networks for offshore as well as an onshore operations which helps service providers- reduce the number of people in the risk zone/ rig site. 

The program of applied petroleum engineering with specialization in intelligent drilling and production system at UPES, provide hands-on industrial experience and knowledge in coherence with the recent developments in the field of integrated operations, remote monitoring, asset optimization, and concurrent learning. Industrial Internet of things implementation for developing a real-time production optimization (RTPO) scenario is the top priority for sustainability and development of the hydrocarbon industry. The development of deep expertise across subsea, deepwater projects, and pipeline optimization will enhance and open new horizons for the development of sophisticated systems and products for the oil and gas industry. 

Keeping this in mind, UPES offers intelligent drilling and production system specialization for B Tech students of petroleum engineering. The specialization aims to train students in conventional as well as modern technologies like advanced simulation, artificial intelligence, remote supervision, the internet of things, and integrated operations. Thorough knowledge of extended reach drilling with industry-academia link program help student to learn and implement their learnings on advanced simulators and industrial software. The curriculum supporting organizational innovation will help students to develop novel technologies to enhance the performance of assets and improve work efficiency for developing business operations and operational capabilities. 

The curricula for the program have been framed in consultation with industry, academia, alumni and parents to make the students' industry ready for graduation.

Minimum 50% Marks in Class X and XII. Minimum 50 % in PCM (Physics/Chemistry and Mathematics) in Class XII

Minimum 10+2 basic qualifications in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry stream. The selection of the eligible candidates is through entrance examinations (JEE or UPESEAT).
